Tom’s & Angus’ Story, Liberia Visit

This week Angus and I visited MOPO Liberia HQ in Monrovia. For both of us this was not only our first time visiting a MOPO subsidiary, but also our first time visiting Africa. What an incredible experience!

Spending time with Wilfred Kanu and Ben Storey, we visited MOPOMax GENREP and MOPO50 hubs in Brewerville and Buchanan. Witnessing actual rentals of MOPO Batteries in the field (rather than just in the workshop) for the first time was incredible. The opportunity to speak to MOPO agents about the challenges that they face in their jobs was invaluable. What struck me was the pride and responsibility that agents feel in their work. MOPO not only provides power to customers, it provides employment, progression opportunities and a sense of purpose to agents and staff both in Africa and the UK!

Tagging along with Ben Storey and Wilfred Kanu to a MOPOMax GENREP hub, we ‘assisted’ with swapping out an old MOPOMax Charge Unit for a newer model. The agents were excited to get the new model as it would enable them to charge their MOPOMax batteries more quickly, meaning more rentals and more energy delivered to customers.

Another highlight of the trip was meeting Head of Operations for Liberia, Garsumu Sheriff, whose insights and suggestions helped us to refine a new app for Area Managers that we are building. We have already begun implementing software changes as a result of these conversations.

We return to the UK office re-energised and inspired to work even harder in building a software platform that empowers and supports our staff to do their jobs effectively.

Reflections from Angus:

It's inspiring just how much MPLR have built, especially now having seen first-hand the many challenges the environment presents.

Special thanks to Wilfred, Ben, Garsumu, Mustapha and Vamunya for their hospitality and company.
