Tom’s Story
This week’s story is coming from our very own Thomas McKinney and the exciting projects he’s working on
It's hard to believe it's been 8 months since I joined as a KTP (Knowledge Transfer Partnership) associate, working jointly with MOPO and The University of Sheffield. This unique position allows me an interesting perspective, both as an observer and an active participant in our daily endeavours.
In this short time, I've not only enjoyed working with all of you but have also witnessed our company's impressive growth every day. I’m more excited than ever about the projects MOPO has in store, and I'm hopeful that my contributions will help bring these initiatives to fruition.
So, you might wonder, what exactly does a KTP associate do? My primary goal is to enhance the experience for our MOPO50 and MOPOMAX customers by maximizing our product rentals. A significant part of my role has involved developing a 32-channel battery cell tester here in the UK office. With this equipment, and the resources from the University, we're able to extensively test our batteries. This helps us not only identify the best batteries for our products but also determine optimal management strategies to extend their lifespan.
Moreover, I've been diving into theory and modelling, leveraging the vast amounts of data we collect to enhance our products' performance. I'm currently developing an AI model that predicts the lifespan of battery packs, which will boost our predictive maintenance capabilities and optimize our resource allocation.
Incorporating custom charge profiles, battery management systems and multi-cell compatibilities is what puts MOPO above the competition. It was a landmark achievement when MOPO introduced the first LMFP battery into Africa - a clear indication of our commitment to R&D and innovation. This drive to enhance our products is further evidenced by our most recent exploration for the potential of Sodium-Ion cells for the MOPO50. This venture opens a world of exciting possibilities, demonstrating our commitment to leading-edge technology.
To end, I want to thank everyone for making me feel welcomed from day one. Here's to bleeding purple!
