Ibrahim’s MOPO Experience: A Journey of Growth
Ibrahim Tarawally in MOPO Sierra Leone HQ
“In 2019, my journey with MOPO Sierra Leone (MPSL) began in the quiet town of Yengema, located in the heart of Kono District. Stepping into this world was overwhelming, as I had no prior experience with MOPO operations. Yet, it was in this challenging environment that I teamed up with Luke Mathiesen and Wilfred Kanu to tackle our first major task: the Yengema Hub.
With their guidance, I gradually began to understand the intricacies of MOPO systems and the ethics that govern them. By July 2019, I was offered an Area Manager role, and my first major assignment was the commissioning of the Pendembu hub. I worked alongside Luke, Wilfred, the technical team, and other area managers.
This was the moment I was waiting for— my chance to showcase my skills. I implemented new strategies to smoothly commission hubs, and my responsibilities quickly grew. It was challenging, but exciting. I’m deeply grateful for the opportunities that have led to my success.
Over time, my social skills and ability to engage with agents, customers, and community stakeholders improved tremendously. I became adept at resolving issues, addressing communities and agents, and customers. It became clear to me how vital these relationships were in ensuring the smooth operation of MPSL hubs.
Life has changed dramatically since I joined MPSL. With the savings I’ve managed to accumulate, I’ve been able to support my family and even acquire property. My personal relationships have deepened, and I’ve gained the trust and respect of agents, customers, and colleagues alike. I owe much of my success to the opportunities provided by MPSL, and I am forever grateful for the platform to showcase my talents and hard work.
Being part of MOPO in Sierra Leone has been an incredible experience, especially knowing that our work ensures access to clean energy. It brings me immense pride to see communities embrace the MOPO dream of providing affordable electricity to homes.
As I look to the future, I remain dedicated to MOPO’s mission. We have made significant strides, but there is still more to achieve. Together, we will continue to work tirelessly to commission new hubs, innovate new systems, and ensure that every corner of Africa benefits from MOPO solutions.
For all this and more, I am deeply thankful to the MOPO team for believing in me. The journey has been rewarding, and I look forward to what lies ahead.”
