MOPO, Servant Leadership

“In the words of our Operations Manager Joel Delaney, “not all of us are leaders. Some of us must be content with being followers - content with serving others.” I dare say then that:

True leadership is service, ability to help others succeed, understanding that the success of one is the success of all.

My conversations with Joel taught me that we all can’t be leaders all of the time, sometimes we follow, our role as followers has as much effect on the overall goal.

My friend Joel didn’t just say those words, he lives it. Daily Joel shows that he wants to help and he wants to make things better and he wants to be the support I need to do my job well. What a good man Joel is. People like Joel are the foundation of mopo, people who beyond ambition truly want to serve others, want to make things better for another.

The conversations we have at mopo are rich about what to do next, to make lives better. It is more fulfilling to find that these leaders aren’t just concerned about building a company, wealth or legacy, they are interested in building people.

They have successfully given everyone a share of what the world can be by making MOPO what the world should be.

From our CEO Chris Longbottom and COO Luke Burras, who lead with genuine humility working alongside each other while also leading in the forefront, to our MD Africa Luke Mathiesen, whose inspirational and brotherly approach shows his willingness to always roll up his sleeves, ready to get his hands dirty no matter the discomfort. This spirit continues through to our Country Directors and leaders Wilfred Kanu, Garsumu Sheriff, Bradley Rolly and Bawo Megbele, and extends to everyone who stands on the shoulders of these remarkable leaders.

mopo isn’t just a company, mopo is the people, the people who make this culture, the team across countries and continents, agents whose smiles keep the Area Managers going.

Our Leaders are not first motivated by money but by the joy of what can be built and the hope that our names are etched on the walls of time as those who built the future.

When Luke Mathiesen recruited me, he said I need someone who can be committed, who is willing to build something and would be here for the long haul. It’s been more than three years already, we are still building and we will continue to build.

I am not just a staff member, I am a part of a vision and I am greatly inspired.”

-Yemi Sanya, Country Director Nigeria & DRC
