Building on its battery rental model, MOPO is developing new ways to deliver greater volumes of energy to low-income communities. This includes larger MOPO batteries for homes and businesses, backup power for weak-grid customers, MOPOGo batteries for e-mobility and wired MOPOGrid connections from our hubs.
By offering multiple levels of service within the same ecosystem, MOPO’s evolving technology reflects the diversity of incomes and energy needs within any given African community. Customers start with what they can afford and scale up when they’re ready.
The MOPO Hub is a community power station.
Each MOPO Hub generates energy through solar panels, stores the energy in MOPO batteries, and sits at the centre of a flexible local power network.
Energy is produced and stored at the Hub.

MOPO50 delivers essential power for everyday life. It’s small, hyper-affordable, and easy to carry.
The MOPO50 was designed specifically for 80% of the off-grid population who we know can’t access, afford or qualify for other solar home systems.
MOPO50 powers daily essentials: laptop, phones, tablets, small fans, lights, and Wi-Fi routers.
Customers rent it in cash when they want to and can afford it. There’s no deposit, no credit check, no contract, or lock in.
MOPO’s proprietary technology allows the MOPO50 to be rented out for a specific period of time: 24 hours, 12 hours or 6 hours. Customers meet the agents in their local area to rent MOPO50.
MOPOMax is an all-purpose power solution, capable of powering virtually all common home and business appliances. It’s powerful, portable, and versatile, keeping homes and businesses running.
The MOPOMax is for customers with no or unreliable access to electricity that need to power appliances in their home or business.
The MOPOMax can power nearly every plug-based appliance. At home it will power appliances like 54″ HDTV, a fridge or freezer, or a small air conditioner. For businesses, it powers appliances like sewing machines, a wide selection of power tools, computers, fridges, and cooking equipment.
Same as the MOPO50, customers rent it in cash when they want to and can afford it. There’s no deposit, no contract, no lock in.
MOPO’s proprietary technology allows the MOPOMax to be rented out for a specific period of time: 12 hours, 10 hours or 6 hours. MOPO agents offer a fresh battery once the customer’s rental ends or the battery runs out of energy.
The same technology, network, and hubs, different use case: MOPO can also power two and three-wheeled vehicles.
MOPOGo is designed for riders. As e-mobility expands quickly across Africa, MOPO can make use of the same hub infrastructure to power a transportation revolution. Electric vehicles and e-charging allow customers to reduce total transport costs.
Our MOPO batteries can power compatible motorcycles and three-wheeled trikes, the backbone of African transport.
The customer simply rides to the MOPO Hub, which is now also the solar fuel station for e-mobility. As well as local power stations, our hubs provide an interconnected network of charging stations. At the hub, riders swap charged MOPO batteries instead of relying on petrol.
MOPOPlus batteries store power when the grid is on and release power when the grid is off, delivering reliable electricity for customers and increasing the resilience of the grid.
MOPOPlus is designed expressly for customers with unreliable grid electricity and who experience frequent power cuts. It’s more affordable than a solar home system and it works for customers who don’t have roof access to install solar panels.
MOPOPlus powers everything in the customer’s home; the MOPOPlus battery integrates into the home grid electricity system. The grid charges the MOPOPlus battery when it’s operational and the price of energy is lowest. When there’s a power cut, MOPOPlus provides back up energy.
Customers pay for the service as they go. It works the same way as a pre-paid electricity meter; rental payments are in small installments as and when the customer can afford it.
MOPOPlus is installed for free. The customer then pays for the service with a short term subscription.
MOPO’s solution for reliable, repeat customers who can afford larger amounts of energy. Electricity cables connect a MOPO Hub to MOPO batteries in customers’ homes or businesses.
MOPOGrid is for customers with a good track record and the means to sustain a grid connection. Proven customers with a strong rental record and established demand can gain access to the equivalent of a grid connection, all powered by the same MOPO Hub.
It provides grid-level electricity, which can power any home or business.
MOPO installs a cable from the Hub to the customers’ home or business. The customer also pays for MOPOPlus for overnight storage. The MOPOPlus batteries are charged during sunlight hours to enable the customer to have electricity overnight.
